1848 Robert Burns Tavern occupied 97-101 but by the start of the 1900's it was a house and 2 shops. Later the house was incorporated to make the double fronted 97/99 with 101 becoming a butchers shop.

1910 John Richardson, Flesher*
1921 David H Beattie, Flesher*
1930 R Johnstone & Sons, Butcher
* Flesher in Scotland means the same as Butcher although in English it is associated with removing flesh in the making of leather.
Robert Johnstone spent some time at Number 29 High Street before moving to this prime position on the High Street.
Memories: In the past, when Annan still had cattle sales, locals remember Johnstone's advertising that at Christmas they had bought the champion beast at the Christmas Mart.
