Number 73-75 was built as the Grand Hotel in 1846 in the classical style for Mr Halliday with a porch on sturdy paired columns. He was hoping to cater for the busy coach trade in Annan but the arrival of the railway in 1848 brought about the decline of the coach trade and the hotel soon closed - soon becoming known as Hallidays folly. We presume this was why Bank Street was once called Halliday Street.
The building including Numbers 73 & 75 is now a Category B Listed Building. Category B means it is of regional importance.
The listing says 'Earlier/mid 19th century classical bank, 3 storeys over basement, symmetrical 5 bay elevation to High Street has a pedimented central porch on paired columns, steps and platts span basement area. Red ashlar band courses between floors, sash windows, (small paned above ground.) Corniced stacks, iron-railed basement area.'
You can see these features in this 2021 photo.
