If you look carefully where it says The Buck Inn it has the number 82A - this means the shop unit to the left is Number 82. However, these numbers often got used to mean the shop, the pub, the close and yard at the side and even the stabling not to mention the rooms upstairs. The Buck Close used to extend right back to Back Lady Street but when the new buildings down Lady Street (Carpet shop and Kiddies Soft Play) were built they cut back into the Buck Close.
Coopers & Co Grocers to the King, was established in 1871 but when they first came to Annan is unsure - they are first mentioned in Annan Trade Directories around 1906. Their adverts featured their high quality teas. They were incorporated into Fine Fare in 1955 but this store continued into the 1960s as Coopers whereas their shop at Numbers 104-106 was called Coopers Fine Fare.
The shop became a TV rental and sales and VIP Boutique for a few years before its many attempts at cafe, bakery and takeaway in many guises and names.

Memories: I remember hanging about in Cooper's doorway, admiring a panel of purple tiles with a flock of white geese walking, which were on the left of the door. In common with many other shops on the High Street Cooper's had an awning on a sprung roller which was pulled down every day with a long pole with a hook on the end. It had their name on it in very bold lettering.
Memories: The manageress was a Mrs Nance. The shop was the scene of two fires, once when Mrs Nance's cat knocked over a paraffin lamp and once later when it was a wool shop.
