The block including 43 and 45 is a Category B Listed Building. Category B means it is of regional importance.
The listing says ' Earlier 19th century, 2 storeys... 3 bay shop at right (No.43), main doorway and window at left (No.45)... pair tripartite windows at first floor, small-paned sashes..'

The 1891 census has George Pollock, draper in this unit and annoyingly before this, Valuation Rolls say he had two shops on the High Street but no numbers. Herbert B Gilbertson had shops at Number 27 and over the road at Number 28 but combined these into number 43. In trade directories of 1918 the shop became HB & I Gilbertson. 
J & M Nicholson moved in around 1936 with their bakery shop and by 1947 had taken over number 45 next-door and under the name Nicholson's, bakers were there until 2010. The shops were separated into 2 units again in 2014

1996 RoM featured a full history of 43/45 - 
a lot has changed since then!

Memories: Irving Gilbertson would never appear on the street without his immaculate watch-chained waistcoat and bowler hat.

1936 J & M Nicholson Baker confectioner - café upstairs(known as the Annandale Café)

1947 J & M Nicholson expanded into number 45
Memories: Jeanette Weild, proprietor after the Nicholson's, was a great Riding of the Marches supporter and was often among the prize winners for her window display.
