Looking towards the Town Hall, most old pictures of Annan High Street will feature Number 40 High Street with the name T & G Tweedie.

Further back along the High Street but the T&G Tweedie shop
still takes centre stage !

This photo from the early 1900's also shows Tweedie's being at Number 42.

Old letter headings and receipts describes T & G Tweedie Established 1856 as Manure Manufacturers, Bone Grinders, Agricultural Seedsmen and General merchants. They were also chemists, druggists and  public analysts. The Mill and works were at the Well (Welldale) and offices on the High Street.

The motto De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum translates as
'Of the dead, nothing but good' which some would change to
'Don't speak ill of the dead' but for bone grinders perhaps,
'Nothing but good comes of the dead' ??

Below the word Annan you might notice N.B. - that stands for Northern Britain which is what Scotland was known as.
