Macleans Posting Establishment was in the yard of the Commercial Hotel and can just be made out next in this photo from the 1920's. A Posting Establishment was usually next to licensed premises or a Posting House and were able to hire out horses. The phrase post-haste possibly comes from these establishments being quick at changing your horse to continue your journey.

The 1911 Annandale Observer advert shows Alex Maclean as the postmaster at the Commercial and Queensberry Posting Establishments.

By 1920's you could hire a motor car from Macleans garage and they also had the first taxi in Annan!
