We believe Ben Pool was also at Number 63 and was here for several years until State Management took over. In 1916 to curb the enthusiasm of drinkers State Management was introduced. Many pubs and breweries were shut down and those that remained were managed by civil servants and subject to strict laws. This remained in force until the 1970's!

A salmon weighing 50½ lbs was caught by Peter Loudon in 1893 at Black Pool, River Annan and was the largest ever recorded salmon to be caught on the River Annan. A cast of the fish was loaned by Peter Loudon's niece to Annan & District Anglers and was proudly displayed in their front window for many years.
During renovations in 2013 when the building was converted to the Angler's pub the cast was found and is now proudly displayed in Annan Museum.

Memories: "Where the Anglers is now was the State Control Offices and Off Licence. Mr Jack Arthur (State Control Manager) told me they were the first to turn the labels on whisky bottles upside down so the bottles could be read on the optics."
