This building is a Category B listed building. Category B listing means it is of regional interest. It was upgraded from a Category C (of local importance) in 1988, after its original listing in 1971. It states dated 1730 bon marriage lintel over original central door (the lintel is initialled AI IG) ... 2 storeys, 3 bays.... 2 shops at ground now united ... original door now glazed ...single first floor windows with small paned upper sashes
Originally number 77 was listed as a shop, 79 a house and 81 a bakehouse/store. They were later joined as one.
John Richardson had a newsagent, bookshop & library at Number 77 from about 1830.
