We believe Gilbert Tweedie was upstairs at Number 38.

1921 Shortridge & Sons dyers
This business was founded by Thomas Shortridge in 1845 and stayed in family ownership until 1947, when Thomas' grandson retired. The company prospered and continued to expand throughout SW Scotland and they began providing linen hire and laundry services for hotels. In 2005 the company was acquired by North West Laundries. They were also at 13 High Street for many years.

1975 Lombard North Central
The company was part of the NatWestGroup and was founded in 1971. A finance company that in 1995 adopted the shorter name Lombard. In 2002 National Westminster Bank was acquired by Royal Bank of Scotland but Lombard still exists.

This was part of Thomas Cook until they merged with the Co-op 's holiday shops, when Going Places ceased to exist. The new firm was known as Co-op Travel.
